Local Choir brings Christmas Cheer to Andover

New England Classical Singers choral chamber ensemble brings holiday music to the Merrimack Valley community

Experience the true magic of the holidays with a performance by the New England Classical Singers(NECS)! This auditioned choral chamber ensemble has been active in the Merrimack Valley for nearly 50 years, bringing professional quality music right to your backyard. This year, NECS presents a concert of festive cheer including Handel’s Messiah, Part I (with the “Hallelujah” chorus), Victoria’s Magnificat Secundi Toni, and a cappella holiday favorites. Concerts will take place the evening of December 10, and in the afternoon on December 11.

Directed by award-winning director David Hodgkins, the group traditionally performs the “Hallelujah” chorus this time of year, bringing Christmas cheer through classical music. This year, the Singers will be joined by guest soloists Dana Varga (soprano), Julia Cavallaro (alto), Greg Zavracky (tenor), Thomas Jones (bass) and the NECS Chamber Orchestra. NECS will then join the audience for post-concert refreshments and an old-fashioned carol sing. Prior to each performance, noted musicologist Andrew Shryock will be presenting a pre-concert lecture.
