The discrepancies seem "unlikely to have an innocent explanation," a campaign finance expert said.

LOWELL, MA -- The Boston Globe is questioning a last-minute cash infusion into the campaign of U.S. Rep. Lori Trahan (D-Lowell) that helped her top a 10-candidate primary race in September. Trahan went on to easily win the general election in November. In an article published in Monday's editions, the newspaper questioned a $371,000 loan she made from personal funds to her campaign, as well as campaign finance filings she made after the newspaper started asking questions.

"The discrepancies between the supposed personal loans and her financial disclosures seem unlikely to have an innocent explanation," Adav Noti, a Washington, D.C.-based campaign finance expert who reviewed the filings, told the Globe. Trahan declined to be interviewed or to share bank records with the newspaper.
