Several Offices in IRS Building Evacuated After Suspicious Package Discovered

The incident remains under investigation.

Several rooms in the Andover IRS building were evacuated on Wednesday morning after a suspicious substance was discovered in an envelope, according to authorities.

An IRS employee called to report the discovery about 8:30 Wednesday morning.

Andover Police, Fire and Rescue, the regional hazmat team and local Health Department officials responded.

The envelope with the suspicious substance was in found in an office.

Employees in that office and surrounding offices, were evacuated, according to Andover Police Commander Charles Heseltine.

No injuries were reported.

Though the incident is still under investigation, Commander Heseltine said authorities determined the substance was not hazardous or a safety concern.
