Peking & the Mystics a Doo-Wop Quintet

Five Tufts graduates, including two Andover residents, make up the five-piece A Capella ground Peking & the Mystics who will perform in Andover DCS’ Concert in the Park Series on Wednesday, July 22. The concert will being at 6:00 pm in the Park at the corner of Chestnut & Bartlet streets and will conclude at 8:00 pm.

Gene Blake, tenor 2, and Tim Vaill, baritone, live right here in Andover and were founding members of Peking & the Mystics back in 1973. Andrew Cranin, low tenor, Chris Parker, bass, and David Pratt, tenor 1, make up the remaining members of the group that has toured nationally and internationally, recorded three CD’s, appeared on TV and radio, and been featured in national print. The group prides themselves on the original arrangements (75 of which were written by Gene Blake) that incorporates swing, jazz, doo-wop, and pop from every decade of music between the 1890’s and the 2000’s.
