Person Struck, Killed By Amtrak Train In Andover

ANDOVER, MA — A person was struck and killed by an Amtrak train traveling to Maine in Andover on Thursday afternoon. Train 685, an Amtrak Downeaster, hit a person who Amtrak says was trespassing on the track at 4:18 p.m., according to WCVB-5 ABC.

The incident occurred near the intersection of Railroad and Essex streets in Andover.

The Essex County District Attorney's Office said the person had waited for a southbound train to pass before being hit by a northbound train that immediately followed, WCVB-5 ABC reported.

Investigators found the crossing lights and gates appeared to be working for both trains and were down when the person was hit, WHDH News 7 reported.

No one else was injured. The victim has not been identified.

The train was traveling from Boston to Brunswick.

Amtrak and local law enforcement are investigating, according to WHDH News 7.
