Phillips Academy Names Interim Football Coach In Andover

The new coach is a familiar face with a long history in the sport.

ANDOVER, MA — Ernie Adams has been named the interim head coach for the Phillips Academy football team, according to the school.

He will serve in the position "through the 2026 season while the school completes its search for a new head coach," the school wrote.

In the 1970s, Adams and Bill Belichick met at the Phillips campus, "forming a historic partnership as they spent much of their free time in the Oliver Wendell Holmes Library analyzing football scouting reports and coaching manuals," according to the school.

Adams, 72, was a longtime right-hand man for Belichick, spending 22 years with the Patriots as the team's football research director, according to Sports Illustrated.
