Serious 495 4-Car Crash Results In Life-Threatening Injuries

Some lanes were closed for three hours Saturday morning.

LAWRENCE, MA - A multi-vehicle crash on I-495 caused serious injuries Saturday morning, police said.

Police responded at about 7:30 a.m. to reports of a serious crash just south of Exit 42 in Lawrence. Police say it appears a 27-year-old Haverhill man driving a 2008 Mitsubishi Eclipse was travelling southbound when he went from the right lane all the way to the left lane, crossed the center median, and was struck by a 2013 Ford Transit van driven by a 31-year-old Lancaster man driving northbound.

As the Mitsubishi drifted across lanes, a 2013 Chevrolet Equinox driven by a 24-year-old Haverhill woman slammed the brakes and was struck from behind by a 2012 Chevrolet Equinox driven by a 25-year-old Methuen man, police said.

All northbound lanes and two southbound lanes were closed, some for up to three hours.

A medflight transported the driver of the Mitsubishi to Mass General Hospital with life-threatening injuries.

The other three drivers were transported to Lawrence General with non-life threatening injuries.
