Incumbent Frank Moran Wins 17th Essex Democratic Race

ANDOVER, MA — State Rep. Frank Moran fended off a challenge from Marianela Rivera in the 17th Essex District Democratic primary, Tuesday.
Moran has represented the district, which includes parts of Andover, Lawrence and Methuen, since 2013. There were no candidates in the Republican primary.
Moran received over 64 percent of the vote.

Rivera, a physical therapist, polled nearly even with the incumbent in Andover, but he took over three-quarters of the vote in Lawrence, where both candidates live. He is a former Lawrence City Council member; she is a former Lawrence School Committee member.
The district includes parts of Andover, Lawrence and Methuen.

Frank Moran* — 64.4% — 3,757 votes
Marianela Rivera — 35.6% — 2,079 votes
