The two drivers were taken by ambulance to to Lawrence General Hospital Monday afternoon.

ANDOVER, MA -- Three people were injured following what fire officials are calling a "serious" car crash on Union Street in Andover near the I-495 on-ramp at 3 p.m. Monday. A 32-year-old Andover woman who was driving a red, Nissan Altima and a 20-year-old Andover man driving a grey, four-door Sedan were taken to Lawrence General Hospital. Their conditions were not released Tuesday afternoon.
A third person, who was a passenger in the grey car, was treated at the scene. There were no other passengers in either car. Fire officials say one of the cars broadsided the other at a high rate of speed. All three people were trapped in the cars and needed to be extricated.
"The impact of the crash was violent, and there was a large debris field on the road. Union Street and the highway on-ramp were closed during the rescue efforts, cleanup, and investigation," Andover Fire officials said in a news release. The crash is being investigated by Andover Police, a speed appears to have been a factor.
