Three Minutes on a Park Bench With: Jen Kolar
Get to know your neighbor, Jen Kolar, and "Get Fit. Get Happy." in our virtual park bench interview.
We had the opportunity to chat for three minutes on a virtual park bench with Andover resident and business owner Jen Kolar.
Jen, a personal trainer with 11 years of experience under her belt, recently launched The Burn, an outdoor fitness training class at Balmoral Park in Andover. The class is all about getting fit while having fun in the fresh air! She also has her own children's organic clothing line that you can find right here in Andover.
Find out more about Jen in our Virtual Park Bench Interview:
What's your morning routine?
Jen: I wake up around 6 AM (my husband has already been up and out since 4:45 AM!) and make myself a cup of coffee to enjoy while watching the morning news and programming for the day's training sessions. Around 7 AM my little guy joins me and we have breakfast together while waiting for his little sister to wake up. She appears around 8:30 AM and the day officially begins!
What do you do for a living?
Jen: I am a personal trainer. Deciding to leave The Sports Club LA/Boston after 11 years was a big decision. When we moved to Andover I began doing doing private training locally and started an outdoor fitness class called The Burn. It is a killer class designed to be flexible for different fitness levels. Using TRX, battle ropes, kettle bells...participants get a strength and cardiovascular workout while having fun in the fresh air. You can find out more on Facebook at Get fit. Get happy.
And what's the best thing about your job?
Jen: Being a part of improving people's health and happiness. I think that's all we want right?
What's the hardest?
Jen: Challenging people to move outside of their comfort zones. Meeting a goal is hard work. We need to make big changes sometimes to accomplish our goals.
How long have you lived in Andover?
Jen: Exactly one year!
What's your favorite thing about living here?
Jen: Having space for my kids to run and jump and play. We moved from a loft in downtown Boston. Now my children have a swing set in their backyard and neighbors to play with at a moments notice.
If you had to arrange a secret meeting in Andover, where would you have it?
Jen: Oh boy, that's a tough one. I'm still learning about the town...Maybe the courtyard at Andover Inn, it looks lovely.
Tell us something about yourself that most of your neighbors don't know.
Jen: I have a small children's organic clothing line called Mama's Boy. You can find it at Helen Thomas in Andover and Tiny Hanger in Brookline.
When you want a really indulgent snack in Andover, where do you go and what do you get?
Jen: Pazzo Gelato in North Andover! I try a new flavor every time we go. (Don't tell my clients ; )
What's the best piece of advice you've ever been given?
Jen: Do what you love and love what you do.
What are you doing after this interview?
Jen: Next I'm taking my two kiddos to Pomp's Pond for a picnic lunch and swim. It's how all kids should grow up. I feel very lucky to be able to have the opportunity to be home with them and give them this life.
