ANDOVER, MA — A Washington, DC-based watchdog group filed a complaint against U.S. Rep Lori Trahn (D-Lowell) with the Federal Elections Commission. The complaint says Trahan may have violated campaign finance rules when she loaned her campaign $371,000 in the waning days of a tight, ten-way Democratic primary in September. Trahan defeated Dan Koh of Andover by 0.1 percent following a recount then went on to easily win the general election in November.

The Campaign Legal Center's complaint questions where the money came from and asks federal regulators to open an investigation. The Center said a review of her financial disclosure statements suggests she did not have enough money to make such a sizable loan to her campaign, the complaint said. A spokesperson for Trahan told the Eagle-Tribune said the complaint was "without merit."
