Arlington Adds 2 New Hydration Stations

The town now has seven total locations that provide free drinking water.

ARLINGTON, MA — The town and Zero Waste Arlington have added two new public hydration stations at Parallel Playground on Medford Street and Arlington High School’s Peirce Field on Massachusetts Avenue as part of the community’s ongoing Arlington on Tap initiative.

The additions bring the total number of free public water refill stations in Arlington to seven.

Arlington on Tap launched in 2022 alongside the town’s ban on the retail sale of single-use plastic water bottles smaller than one liter. Since then, the town and Zero Waste Arlington have worked to expand access to free drinking water through a growing network of refill stations connected to the Massachusetts Water Resources Authority supply system.

Town officials said new hydration stations are typically installed as parks and playgrounds undergo renovations in an effort to pair infrastructure upgrades with long-term environmental and community benefits.

All Arlington on Tap stations operate seasonally from April through October.

Current hydration station locations now include Arlington Reservoir, Hurd Field, Thorndike Field, Robbins Farm Park, Arlington High School’s Peirce Field, Swan Place on Massachusetts Avenue, and Parallel Playground.

Zero Waste Arlington is an appointed volunteer town committee focused on reducing municipal solid waste through advocacy, education, and policy initiatives. The group, formerly known as the Arlington Recycling Committee, rebranded in 2019.
