Tennis Court Renovation To Begin In Arlington

ARLINGTON, MA — A long-planned renovation of the athletic courts at Crosby Park is set to get underway this month.

The town announced construction on the Crosby Court renovation project will begin in August, with Quirk Construction performing the work. The athletic court area will be closed throughout construction, which is expected to be completed in late fall. Temporary fencing is scheduled to be installed during the week of Monday, Aug. 3 before demolition and renovation work begins.

Once complete, the renovated facility will feature four tennis courts, with two of the courts lined to accommodate four pickleball courts. The project will also include a basketball court that will be lined for futsal.

The renovation project stems from Arlington's 2023 Athletic Court Needs Assessment, which identified Crosby Park as a priority site for improvements because of the age and condition of its athletic courts. The assessment found the courts had not undergone a major renovation in approximately 20 to 25 years and documented surface cracking, deteriorating playing conditions, an undersized basketball court and a hitting wall in poor condition. It also found that surveyed tennis players rated Crosby Park as their least favorite tennis courts in town because of their condition, while users said they valued the park's location and neighborhood.

The town developed the final design following a public engagement process led by the Park and Recreation Commission and project consultant Activitas, Inc. During the fall of 2025, residents were invited to provide feedback through a community survey and commission meetings before the final plan was adopted. As part of that process, planners explored ways to maintain four tennis courts while improving accessibility and other amenities at the site.

The project is being funded through Arlington's Community Preservation Act.
