78-Year-Old's 3rd OUI Puts 12-Year-Old In Hospital: Police

A girl has serious injuries after an Attleboro man allegedly struck her in Dorchester.

DORCHESTER, MA — A 78-year-old Attleboro man was arrested for his third OUI after striking a 12-year-old girl Saturday afternoon, State Police said. The girl was hospitalized with serious injuries.

Richard Higgins was arrested by state and local police around 4:25 p.m. It is alleged Higgins fled the scene after his 2001 Ford Explorer struck the girl on Old Colony Ave. Police are investigating whether the girl was in the crosswalk.

Higgins was arrested in the area of the Kosckiuzco Rotary after police stopped his vehicle. He is being charged with OUI, third offense; leaving the scene of personal injury; negligent operation of a motor vehicle; OUI with a revoked license for OUI; OUI with suspended license for OUI; and speeding.
