📰 News we're reading

1. Cross Country Opens 2026 Season at Friar Invitational (brownbears.com) — Brown University's men's and women's cross country teams kicked off their 2026 season Friday at the Friar Invitational in Attleboro's Highland Park, giving local fans a chance to see Ivy League competition up close. The men finished fourth and the women seventh in strong fields, and the same Attleboro course will host the Ivy League championship meet later this fall.

2. Governor's Council incumbents sweep primary challenges (wbur.org) — Attleboro voters are part of Governor's Council District 2, where incumbent Tamisha Civil won her Democratic primary and now faces a Republican challenger in November. Across Massachusetts, all four incumbent councilors with primary opponents held their seats, meaning the powerful judicial-approval body's makeup will likely stay largely the same heading into the general election.

3. Police Blotter: Fake Massachusetts 'nurse' sentenced to 3+ years for pumping clients full of fake Botox (bostonherald.com) — An Attleboro resident is named in a recent Boston police arrest log, tying the city into a wider roundup of criminal charges across Massachusetts. The same report highlights a Stoughton spa owner sentenced to nearly four years in federal prison for injecting hundreds of clients with counterfeit Botox and fillers, underscoring ongoing concerns about unlicensed cosmetic procedures.

4. Robert Neef, 73 (thequincysun.com) — A graveside service and procession will bring Robert "Bobby" Neef back to Attleboro, his birthplace, for burial at North Purchase Cemetery on Tuesday, September 8. The longtime Randolph resident is remembered for his gentle spirit, love of music and car rides, and the many friendships he formed with caregivers and community members across southeastern Massachusetts.
