At approximately 9:30 a.m. , the Attleboro Fire Department responded to a report of a sulfuric acid leak at Robert’s Chemical, an industrial chemicals manufacturer located at 330-B Victor Road. It was reported that a 13,000-gallon tank car was actively leaking sulfuric acid. It is estimated that approximately 5,000 gallons of sulfuric acid has leaked out of the car so far into a containment area outside. Everyone inside the building closest to the tank car was quickly evacuated and no injuries were reported. A Tier 1 HazMat response was triggered, and a state hazardous materials response team was called to investigate. The incident was later elevated to a Tier 2 response, which is classified as a short-term operation.

The incident is isolated and there is no active danger to the general public. The scene remains active at this time as first responders work to stop the leak and conduct clean-up and mitigation efforts.
