Coronavirus: Attleboro Food Program For Closed Schools

ATTLEBORO, MA — Attleboro Public Schools has worked with food provider Whitson's to develop a free lunch distribution program for those 18 years old or younger while school is canceled due to the coronavirus pandemic. This program will run from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at two locations — the superintendent's office at Attleboro High School and at Hills-Roberts Elementary School.

The program, which this week runs Tuesday through Friday, will offer bag lunches in front of the building to be picked up and taken off site. Participants can drive up or walk up and a lunch will be brought to them. Anyone 18 years or younger will be provided a lunch. No identification will be required.

A strict policy of one lunch per person will be followed. Students will not be able to pick up multiple lunches for siblings or other students. Special dietary needs will not be able to be accommodated.

Gov. Charlie Baker announced Saturday morning he is setting up a coronavirus command center that will direct the state's response to the fast-spreading pandemic. The command center will be led by the state Secretary of Health and Human Services Marylou Sudders.

The center will have "complete authority" regarding state resources to prevent the spread of and treat COVID-19. It will expand the state's testing testing capacity, allow the state to quickly respond to community needs and monitor the chain of health supplies. The center will also coordinate across several branches of state government, including education and transportation,
in order to help push back against virus.
