Local Family Collecting Books for Children's Library in Africa

The Warren family of Attleboro is volunteering through African Library Project to collect enough used children’s books to give a library to a primary school in Quthing, Lesotho, located in southern Africa. The family, including Tom, Betsy, Seth, 10, and Joel, 8, began the book drive after encouraging their children to find an activity to help others. Betsy says, “We are a family of book lovers. The mission of African Library Project excited us and the decision to do a book drive was an easy choice.”

To give a library, the drive needs to collect 1000 children’s books, preschool through grade 4, as well as $500 to cover shipping expenses to Africa. To date, they have collected 250 books and $100. The deadline to collect books is May 10. If you have books to donate or can contribute towards shipping expenses, the family can arrange a time and place for pick up or donations can be dropped off at the locations and times listed below.

Book drop off collection points:

-Centenary United Methodist Church at 15 Sanford St., Attleboro, during office hours on Tuesday or Friday 10 a.m.-1 p.m., Thursday 11 a.m.-5 p.m., or on Sunday mornings from 9 a.m. -11:30 a.m.

-Ugly Dog Books at 75 Union St, Attleboro on Saturday, May 7 from 1 p.m.-3 p.m., in the parking lot out in front of the store.
