New Attleboro Mayor Paul Heroux To Finish House Term

Attleboro election results: Democratic State Rep. Paul Heroux unseated longtime mayor Kevin Dumas Tuesday in the municipal election.

ATTLEBORO, MA — New Attleboro Mayor Paul Heroux said he plans to finish his term in the House. Heroux is a Democratic state representative serving Attleboro; he was first elected in 2013 and has 14 months left on his current term. On Tuesday, Heroux was elected the city's new mayor — unseating Kevin Dumas, who served for 14 years. Heroux won 5,064 votes compared to Dumas' 4,304.

Heroux told the State House News Service he wants to keep his House seat finish legislative projects and protect the seat from a possible Republican takeover if he left and a special election was held.

"I know people are going to criticize me, 'Oh, he's getting two salaries.' That's true, but I'm also doing two jobs," Heroux told the news service.
