Obituary: Eleanor M. Barrett

Mrs. Eleanor M. Barrett was a nursing assistant at the Raymond Hospital at the Wrentham State Hospital.

Eleanor M. Barrett, 84, of Wamsutta Road, Attleboro, died peacefully on Saturday, June 15, 2013 at the Golden Living Center Garden Place, Attleboro.

She was the beloved wife of the late Joseph K. Barrett who passed in 1982.
Born in Boston on February 17, 1929, she was a daughter of the late William and Albertine (Paul) Pike.

She was employed as a nursing assistant at the Raymond Hospital at Wrentham State School from 1981 until her retirement in 1999. Prior to that she had also worked as a hairdresser for 25 years and briefly at the corporate offices of Stop & Shop in Marlboro.

She and her husband Joe bred and raised Yorkshire Terriers, including their beloved Champion Leprechaun's Bumpershoot (Bonnie), and founded Shamrock Kennels, which produced an international champion.

She loved the ocean and went to Pier Beach and Scarborough Beach in Narragansett every chance she got, usually with several grandchildren or with her close friend Pauline Orlando of Attleboro. She walked her dog at Capron Park nearly every day. She loved fashion, jewelry, food, the Boston Red Sox, and Las Vegas. She made friends easily, was slow to anger, quick to forgive, steadfast, loyal, and wickedly funny.

Eleanor is survived by her children Sheila M. Bennett and her husband David A. Bennett of Attleboro, and Joseph K. Barrett and his wife Margery L. Barrett of Marlboro; three sisters; Lorraine Goudas of North Attleboro, Joan MacDonald of Natick, and Edith Keogh of Rochester, New York; three grandchildren; Aaron D. Bennett and his wife Sarah Slater Bennett of Attleboro, Christina L. Barrett of Pittsfield, and Joseph K. Barrett of Marlboro; two great grandchildren; Jack W. Bennett and Scott M. Bennett; and Katie, her beloved Yorkshire Terrier. She was the sister of the late William Pike and Allen Pike.

Family and friends are invited to attend visiting hours on Wednesday, June 19, from 10 a.m.-noon- at the Duffy-Poule Funeral Home, 20 Peck St., Attleboro. A funeral service will be conducted at noon at the funeral home following visitation. A private burial at Knollwood Memorial Park in Canton will follow.
