Obituary: Gregory David Goguen

Mr. Gregory David Goguen was a volunteer coach for Attleboro youth baseball and basketball.

Gregory David Goguen, 48, of McKay St., Attleboro, a loving husband, father, and brother, died peacefully on Sunday, June 9, 2013 in the Home & Hospice Care of Rhode Island Philip Hulitar Inpatient Center, Providence.

He was the beloved husband of Sharron (Birch) Goguen. Gregory and Sharron celebrated 17 years of marriage together.

Born in Methuen, on Sept. 16, 1964, he was a son of the late Gerald and Louise (Rivard) Goguen. Gregory was raised and educated in Methuen, graduating from Methuen High School, where he was a member of the football and hockey teams. He worked as a self-employed hardwood floor installer for many years until retiring because of illness.

Gregory was a nearly a scratch golfer with a handicap of two. He won several tournaments in the Methuen area and was a longtime participant in the Attleboro Area Golf Association Open. He was also a Boston Red Sox and Boston Bruins fan, and was a volunteer coach for many years in the Attleboro Youth basketball and baseball leagues. He will always be remembered for his love of his children and family.

In addition to his wife, Sharron, Gregory is survived by two children; Courtney Lynn Goguen and Brendan Thomas Goguen, both of Attleboro, a brother; Gary Goguen of Methuen, two sisters; Cheryl Geary of Manchester, New Hampshire, and Gail Carver of Salem, New Hampshire. Also survived by many nieces and nephews. He was the son in law of the late Thomas L. Birch, Sr. and uncle of the late Joshua Michael Birch.

Family and friends are kindly invited to attend visiting hours on Thursday, June 13, from 4- 7 p.m.. in the Duffy-Poule Funeral Home, 20 Peck Street, Attleboro. A funeral will be conducted on Friday, June 14, at 9:30 a.m. from the Duffy-Poule Funeral Home followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m. in Saint John the Evangelist Church, 133 North Main St., Attleboro, celebrated by Rev. Riley Williams, Parochial Vicar. Gregory will be laid to rest in Mount Hope Cemetery and Arboretum, North Attleboro.
