3/19/16 Ben Ottewell (of Gomez) with David McMillin (of Fort Frances
Live at The Red Room at Cafe 939 / All Ages / $15 GA

Praised by Rolling Stone and GQ, Ben Ottewell, lead vocalist and guitarist for the rock band Gomez, brings his unique voice and intense guitar solos to Berklee. For his newest record, Rattlebag, Ottewell collaborated with childhood friend and Shapes & Shadows writing partner, Sam Genders (Tunng) to create a spare, beautiful collection of musical poems about salvation, redemption, and sanctuary. Thanks to his infectious melodies and bluesy riffs, you’ll be riveted and want to join in the song.
David McMillin fronts the Chicago-based indie rock trio Fort Frances, a band that has earned praise from a cast that includes WXPN’s Bruce Warren, the Counting Crows’ Adam Duritz, and Daniel Tosh. Their new album, Alio, will be released on April 22. Produced by Sam Kassirer, Alio shows McMillin stretching beyond his singer-songwriter roots to reach louder and more triumphant territory, with shades of Wilco and Spoon echoing throughout the 11 new songs. In addition to leading Fort Frances, McMillin regularly performs solo, sharing the stage with acclaimed songwriters such as Shelby Lynne, Martin Sexton, and Ryan Bingham.
