AL LETSON, CRITICALLY-ACCLAIMED POET AND PLAYWRIGHT, TO SPEAK AT FISHER FORUM SPOTLIGHT ON HUMANITY

Fisher College is pleased to announce that Al Letson, Host of State of the Re:Union, will speak at Fisher College’s Convocation Speaker Series on Wednesday, February 20, 2013 at 12:30pm in the Alumni Hall at Fisher College, 118 Beacon Street, Boston. This event will be open to the public and free of charge.

Letson is a critically-acclaimed poet and playwright who started his career in the Poetry Slam Movement. He has experience as a performer on national, regional, and local stages, most notably HBO’s Def Poetry Jam and the CBS 2004 Final Four Pre-Game. Letson was one of three finalists to win the Public Radio Talent Quest in 2008 presented by the Boston Based Public Radio Exchange and CPB. This achievement resulted in Letson’s program, State of the Re:Union,  which will begin its fourth season in February 2013 with twelve full episodes.

Additionally, Letson is a professional playwright and actor. His solo play, entitled Summer in Sanctuary, was produced off Broadway by The Abingdon Theatre Company in 2011. Letson is renowned for his passion for common humanity, as well as his ability to examine challenging topics and influential historical themes. About State of the Re:Union
State of the Re:Union was created by Al Letson as an entry in the Public Radio Talent Quest, which started with more than 1,400 hopefuls. The contest aimed to identify a new generation of Public Radio on-air talent. After four rounds and voting from both a select panel of judges and the public at large, three winners were selected. For his pilot episode, Al and his team created “Welcome to D.C.” Two of the three winning shows were awarded with a year’s worth of funding to produce new episodes, including State of the Re:Union.
