Annual Percussion Department Spring Scholarship Award Winners Concert
This concert will feature the Percussion Department's recipients of the prestigious 2015 spring scholarship awards, made possible through the generous support of Zildjian cymbals, Vic Firth sticks and mallets, Sabian cymbals, Berklee College of Music, and various private donors.

Jason Moran: Fats Waller Dance Party
Jason Moran has been called "the most provocative thinker in current jazz" by Rolling Stone. The Los Angeles Times lauds Moran as "a startlingly gifted pianist with a relentless thirst for experimentation." In this program, Moran once again challenges the status quo by rethinking the work of the prolific jazz pianist and composer Fats Waller. Moran views Waller's music through two lenses: as music for a jazz piano trio and as contemporary dance music.

Yoni Rechter and his Band
Composer, pianist, singer, and arranger Yoni Rechter has made a major contribution to Israeli music in a career spanning more than 30 years, and is considered among Israel's most important musicians. Rechter's music is sophisticated and unexpected; he constantly shifts tones and beats, and his classical piano training is evident. Many of his compositions have become staples of Israeli music.

Qantara Berklee World Fusion
Qantara Berklee Ensemble's performance fuses Arab musical traditions with the contemporary sensibilities of postmodern jazz. Musicians in the ensemble work on challenging musical arrangements and various styles of improvisational skills that are based on harmonic progression, free style, and maqam microtonal expression. Qantara Berklee is a distinctive example of cross-cultural world jazz.

Crossing Wires: An Evening with Richard Devine
Richard Devine is at the forefront of sound synthesis and electronic music. This concert will feature Devine, students from the Electronic Production and Design Department, and the Berklee Interdisciplinary Arts Institute.

Buika
A winner of several Latin Grammy Awards whom NPR named one of the “50 best vocalists of all time,” Buika is a spellbinding performer with a powerhouse voice. Her unique blend of flamenco, jazz, soul, and blues is raw and smoky but also has a tenderness that hits right at the heart. Zucchero
One of Italy’s biggest pop exports, Zucchero is influenced by American blues, soul, and rock and has recorded or toured with Eric Clapton, Andrea Bocelli, Luciano Pavarotti, Miles Davis, John Lee Hooker, Sting, and Solomon Burke, among others. Zucchero (born Adelmo Fornaciari) began his singing career in the ‘70s and first became known in Italy through other artists’ versions of his songs. In the ‘80s, he became a star in his own right and crossed over to the U.K. market in the early ‘90s via a duet with Paul Young. Over the course of his career, Zucchero has sold more than 40 million records, been nominated for a Grammy, and won numerous awards, including two World Music Awards and six IFPI Europe Platinum Awards.

Miguel de Cervantes Anniversary Concert
To commemorate the Miguel de Cervantes anniversary, Berklee Latino and the Instituto Cervantes, in collaboration with the Mediterranean Music Institute, join forces to offer a musical experience that traverses the roots of Spanish music though Latin America. A carefully chosen repertoire will follow the travels of the Spanish language and its progress from the Mediterranean though the Americas.

Legally Blonde: The Musical
Elle Woods is the Delta Nu sorority’s sweetheart and homecoming queen who doesn’t take “no” for an answer. When her boyfriend, Warner, dumps her for someone “serious,” Elle puts down the credit cards, hits the books, and heads to Harvard. Along the way, Elle proves that being true to yourself never goes out of style. Based on the 2001 film starring Reese Witherspoon and book by Heather Hach, this high-energy musical features music and lyrics by Laurence O’Keefe and Nell Benjamin. This performance will be presented by Berklee’s Musical Theater Ensemble, directed by Rene Pfister; and Musical Theater Orchestra, directed by Peter Cokkinias.

Celebrity Series Presents
Maria Schneider Orchestra
Maria Schneider and her orchestra have enjoyed a distinguished recording career, including earning nine Grammy nominations and two Grammy awards. Schneider’s music has been hailed by critics as “evocative, majestic, magical, heart-stoppingly gorgeous, and beyond categorization.” She and her orchestra became widely known starting in 1994 when they released their first recording, Evanescence. With that recording, Schneider began to develop her unique writing style for her 17-member collective, made up of many of the finest musicians in jazz today. Today, Schneider’s compositions continue to highlight the distinct creative voices of the group.

The Fourth Berklee Global Jazz Summit
The Berklee Global Jazz Institute (BGJI) presents its fourth annual summit, featuring jazz masters performing with students and a BGJI all-stars ensemble directed by the program’s artistic director Danilo Pérez.
Pérez, a UNESCO Artist for Peace, says the concert is scheduled for the end of April to honor International Jazz Day and the beginning of the International Decade for People of African Descent. In 2011, the United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) officially designated April 30 as International Jazz Day to highlight the virtues of jazz as vehicle for peace, unity, and dialogue between people.
The Berklee Global Jazz Institute is a performance program designed to foster creativity and musicianship through various musical disciplines. The BGJI provides a comprehensive contemporary music environment where students are given opportunities to explore their creativity to the highest-level possible, advance the power of music as a tool for the betterment of society, and connect musical creative thinking with the natural environment.
