Boston's Tallest Building Undergoes Name Change

The John Hancock tower will now be referred to as "200 Clarendon."

Boston’s tallest skyscraper, the John Hancock Tower, underwent a name change on Thursday, according to the building’s owners.

The Hancock tower will now be referred to as “200 Clarendon.” The new name is the building’s address.

Boston Properties announced the name change Thursday.

Property owners were forced to drop the John Hancock title because, Manulife, which became the parent company of John Hancock in 2003, left the building after its lease ran out.

200 Clarendon is the 57th tallest building in the country. It was constructed in 1976.
