Music continually exists between nostalgia and innovation, cycling through one reinvention to the next. Brooke Waggoner’s inherent grasp of and commitment to her sound seems decidedly unconventional considering these patterns. “I found my sound at a pretty young age,” says the songwriter, composer, and performer. That sound, explored and refined in her latest album,Sweven, draws the notes between her past and present and doesn’t hesitate to mine an unusual source: herself. The album, scheduled for an early 2016 release, builds upon her previous work to tackle a more direct conversation about aging. Its subject matter reveals a maturing artist and an evolving outlook, brewing since the release of her first EP, Fresh Pair of Eyes. Her next release, Heal for the Honey, vividly displayed the depths of heartbreak and its repair with a jaunty, ‘70s-style pop lightness. Go Easy Little Doves, released in 2009, later debuted as number one on the iTunes Singer-Songwriter Chart. Originator, released in 2013, was dubbed “a bold step forward” byEntertainment Weekly, and it led to gigs at the Austin City Limits Festival and Lollapalooza. In the midst of collaborating with and writing for Nashville­-based musicians and orchestras, Waggoner took time off in 2011 and 2012 to record and tour with Jack White. Licensing deals with prominent TV shows emerged as well, showcasing her artistry and songwriting abilities.

The Somerville-based quartet Eternals imagines songs as structures, houses with a form, function, and beauty you want to live in. The group comprises Eric Bolton, Stephan Konrads, Harrison Seiler, and Wayne Whittaker. Their most recent single, “Out of Context,” was released in October of 2015.
