Chameleon Arts Ensemble presents "echoes of celestial song" on Oct 10 & 11, 2015 in Boston
Chamber music of Igor Stravinsky, Dmitri Shostakovich, Elliott Carter, Per Norgard, and Camille Saint-Saens

Chameleon Arts Ensemble opens its 18th chamber music season with three very special programs exploring the influence of J. S. Bach and Baroque music on subsequent generations of composers. Shostakovich’s Piano Quintet in g minor, Op. 57 and Stravinsky’s Duo Concertant for violin and piano are structured like giant Baroque suites, and Saint-Saëns takes Baroque principles as a model for his gorgeous Sonata for oboe and piano, Op. 166. Elliott Carter’s 1952 Sonata for flute, oboe, cello and harpsichord is a seminal work in which he creates a 20th century voice for a Baroque instrument. Finally, Danish composer Per Nørgård brings us back to Bach with his ingenious fantasy, The Well-Tempered Percussionist for marimba, vibraphone and chimes.
