Crossroads Presents: GoGo Penguin

Come check out acoustic-electronica band GoGo Penguin, Live at The Red Room April 26th!

Acoustic band GoGo Penguin has had an amazing year. Their last album, v2.0, ended up on the Mercury shortlist, and they’ve been touring the world to increasingly large, enthusiastic audiences at a wide range of venues in England, France, Germany, and Croatia, among other places. They've sold out shows in Canada; played to standing ovations in New York; provided a live soundtrack for Godfrey Reggio’s cult filmKoyaanisqatsi in Manchester, England; and collaborated with noted choreographer Lynn Page at the London Jazz Festival. During this whirlwind, they signed a multi-album deal with Blue Note Records.

GoGo Penguin's new album, called Man Made Object, springs from pianist Chris Illingworth's interest in robotics, transhumanism, and human augmentation. The band's music draws from many areas of contemporary electronic music, at times including arcade game bleeps, glitchy breakbeats, hypnotic Aphex-style melodies, grinding basslines, and a rumbling low end.

Admission: $17 in advance / $20 day of show
