Berta Rojas: Guitar Music of Latin America

The Boston Classical Guitar Society (BCGS) welcomes guitarist Berta Rojas for an evening of Latin American guitar music. A fiery performer and one of the great interpreters of the music of Paraguayan composer Agustin Barrios, Ms. Rojas will also play works by Edin Solis, Quique Sinesi, and Vincent Lindsay-Clark.  The BCGS Boston Guitar Orchestra opens the evening with “Festival,”  a piece by John Zevos, who will be conducting the ensemble.

The concert begins at 7:30 pm at First Lutheran Church of Boston, 299 Berkeley Street, in the Back Bay. Tickets are $25, $20 for students and seniors; additional BCGS member discounts are available.  Purchase tickets online at http://www.itsmyseat.com/bcgs.html.

Renowned for her flawless technique and innate musicality, Berta Rojas ranks among today’s foremost classical guitarists.  Praised as “guitarist extraordinaire” by the Washington Post, and by Classical Guitar magazine as an “Ambassador of the classical guitar,” her warmth and heart-touching musical artistry delight audiences wherever she performs.

On the concert stage, Ms. Rojas moves easily between classical and other musical genres.  She captivates audiences and critics from Carnegie Hall to the South Bank Centre in London. Her CD"Intimate Barrios, is one of the most celebrated recordings of the great Paraguayan composer, glowing with the insight that only a Paraguayan compatriot could bring to his music.  With her recent recordings Cielo Abierto and Terruño, Ms. Rojas has continued, to great acclaim, to bring a fresh and exciting new repertoire to the guitar.

The Boston Classical Guitar Society is a nonprofit organization that advocates for the classical guitar through performance, education, and community building.  Since its founding in 1977, the BCGS has presented leading guitarists in concerts and masterclasses while frequently supporting local competitions, ensembles, and festivals.  BCGS’s new cornerstone is the Boston Guitar Orchestra, dedicated to promoting the arts while building an inclusive community of participants and audiences in the New England area.  BCGS regularly hosts member performance parties and facilitates interaction among Boston area professionals, students, aficionados, and audiences.
