Join NEHGS for an evening with former Executive Director of the Springfield Museums and author Joseph Carvalho III, as he shares his revised edition of Black Families in Hampden County, Massachusetts 1650-1865, recently published by NEHGS. The book presents genealogical, biographical, and historical information about African American individuals and families who lived in the area now known as Hampden County in western Massachusetts. For this event Carvalho will discuss the genesis of the book project and the development of the African American community in western Massachusetts from its earliest colonial origins to the end of the Civil War. The lecture will be followed by a book signing.
