(BOSTON, MA) – As Boston Fashion Week (September 23rd-30th, 2011) approaches, ditch the front row seat and go behind the scenes with the Boston Center for Adult Education’s (BCAE) new hands-on fashion-related classes this fall! As anyone in the industry knows, there’s more to the fashion world than the glitz and glamour of the runway. The BCAE’s creative classes cover all aspects of the industry including: The Right Fit: Screen Printing T-Shirts, Sew Your Own: Little Black Dress, Studio Free Jewelry Making, The Modern Face: Makeup for Today, so you’re sure to find a class that “suits” you. These fashion forward classes will have you expressing your own personal style, year around, whether you’re celebrating Boston Fashion Week or not! Have a great idea for a T-shirt? Let Bias Design CEO and Owner Krista Siana show you how to create and produce the t-shirt you’ve been dreaming of! This beginner’s workshop will teach you the basic principles of screen printing so you can make T-shirts at home, with low cost, non-toxic materials. No screen printing or design experience required. Please bring a plain t-shirt of your choice and color to the first session.

Sew Your Own: Little Black Dress

Ever wanted to sew your own dress?  Like something you've seen in the store and wanted to re-create it at home with a different fabric?  This class will take you through the ins and outs of creating your own dress in fabric and pattern that you get to choose!  Join clothing designer and custom wedding dress maker Suzi Parks as she takes you on the step-by-step process of creating a dress fitted and created just for you. 

Begins Monday, September 12th, 2011 from 7:45PM to 9:45PM; 7 sessions. $208/ $177 Members

 

Studio Free Jewelry Making

Have you always wanted to create your own unique jewelry, but haven’t had the time, money or skill to do it? If so, this class is for you! Learn the basic skills, tips and tricks for creating inexpensive, one-of-a-kind pieces that will stand the test of time. You’ll learn how to use common jewelry making tools, how to string beads, and how to finish pieces with knotting/crimping techniques. The course will also cover how to make dangle earrings, chain-section pieces and the maasai-technique. Students will be able to complete several pieces during the course.

Begins Tuesday, October 4th, 2011 from 6:00PM to 8:00PM; 5 sessions. $100/ $85 Members, $30 Materials

 

The Modern Face: Makeup for Today 

Enhance your image and make the most of your everyday makeup. Learn professional and easy application techniques and tips on how to focus on your best features. Find out how to enhance your facial features and look fresh and younger at all times. The class will begin with a brief individual consultation on your facial features. Then follow with a discussion on color theory and how pigment visually affects the look of your skin. This is a hands-on class where the teacher will demonstrate basic techniques and students will be given the opportunity to practice during class. 

Begins Tuesday, October 11th, 2011 from 6:00PM to 8:00PM; 3 sessions. $130/$110Members, $12 Materials
