An Evening with Shachar Ziv

Shachar Ziv’s music-filled life began in Israel, where he started writing songs with his older siblings at the tender age of three. He started playing the recorder when he was seven and switched to the French horn a year later after receiving advice that he should be playing a more serious instrument. He represented Israel in a young soloists concert in Tampere, Finland, and also performed in the symphony orchestra at his school, the Thelma Yellin High School of the Arts, on a concert tour traveling to Belgium and France.

After spending three years in the Air Force, he returned to Israel and founded the tango group Pitango Quartet with three friends. He became the pianist for the group. They recorded three albums, toured in Spain and Argentina, and produced the TV show Tango Sin Fronteras for the Jerusalem Festival in 2005. In 2013, he became the musical director for the 10-year anniversary of Pitango, producing the show A Tribute to Maria de Buenos Aires by Astor Piazzolla and Horaico Ferrer.
