Faneuil Hall Marketplace Celebrates 40th Anniversary

Eventful weekend mirrors the 1970's at Faneuil Hall Marketplace.

(Boston, MA) – August 4, 2016 – The disco ball will be spinning during the weekend of August 26-28 when Faneuil Hall Marketplace throws it back to 1976 when the Marketplace reopened after extensive renovations. The actual date of the reopening was August 26, 1976, exactly 150 years after the original market opened in 1826 by Mayor Josiah Quincy. During the 40th anniversary weekend, Faneuil Hall Marketplace will be filled with the sights and sounds of the 70’s.

On Friday, August 26, the Street Performer Showcase will kick off the celebration featuring the world-famous performers entertaining the crowds with their acrobatics, juggling and music. On Saturday, August 27, the Marketplace will be transformed into a 70’s dance party where you can “do the hustle” with three live acts playing from 1 – 6 p.m. On Sunday, August 27, from 3:00 – 6:00 p.m., grab a slice of pizza, an ice cream or a pretzel for just $2, and Mexican street corn for 12 cents, as selected merchants “roll back” prices to what they were in 1976 from 3 – 6 p.m. Also on Sunday, the Red Sox Mobile Experience will be at the Marketplace to add to the celebration.

“We love a party at Faneuil Hall Marketplace and there’s no better way to celebrate than to jump back in time to when the Marketplace was reborn, in August of 1976,” said Carol Troxell, President of Faneuil Hall Merchants Association. “The anniversary weekend will be filled with exciting events, music, dancing and special deals so get out your polyester and platform shoes and join the fun.”
