Each year millions take to the streets and music halls of the world to celebrate La Fête de la Musique, created in 1981 by the French Ministry of Culture. Naturally music lovers around the globe have since embraced this celebration of performance and creativity. The only rule: Faites de la musique! Make music! Amateurs and professionals alike are invited to participate in this international celebration.

Here in Boston, the French Cultural Center invites you to kick off the summer season and take part in the festivities with a day of fun and music!

During the day children will be invited to experience the fabulous
world of music and the diversity of musical instruments: they will make their own instruments, listen to live musicians and sing in French. But, why let the kids have all the fun? You will have the opportunity to sing along to popular French songs so get your vocal chords warmed up and don’t hold back!

To conclude the day, we invite you to attend a musical evening presented by the talented singer Suzanne Pergal and her jazz trio

Throughout the program, titled Musiques de Rue,
Ms. Pergal will unveil for you the richness of music that beats to the
pulse of the bustling cities we adore.  Classical composers, along with
writers of popular songs have long turned to folk music and stories of
seemingly everyday life for inspiration. Each composer or writer
presented in this eclectic program has found inspiration in the streets;
from Rio de Janeiro, to Paris, to New York City. United by a joie de
vivre, this dynamic arrangement of songs travels across genres, borders,
and time periods.

Raise a glass, and enjoy the music of Poulenc, Piaf, Porter, Brel, Jobim, Gershwin, and Gainsbourg!
