La Romance de Paris: A Musical Promenade
Discover how Paris has inspired musicians throughout history in this fascinating multimedia lecture. Thursday, Jun 11, 2015 6:30PM.

Event Description
The French Cultural Center is pleased to welcome Desmond Colborne who returns after his previously sold-out lecture in June of 2013 on Cole Porter in Paris!
In this new visual, musical and evocative lecture “La Romance de Paris,” Desmond will expand on how Paris has inspired countless musicians throughout the centuries. From classical to popular, ethereal to “oh-la-la,” this music conjures up the atmosphere of Parisian boulevards, cabarets, cafés, restaurants and the river Seine.
The talk will take the form of a flânerie, a walk down musical memory lanes, following in the footsteps of composers and singers, tuning in to their music. Among classical composers, he will evoke Mozart, Chopin and Liszt. He will then focus on recent popular music by Broadway composers such as George Gershwin and Cole Porter as well as songs popularized by internationally acclaimed musical stars like Edith Piaf, Josephine Baker, Maurice Chevalier, Yves Montand and Charles Aznavour.
