LOCAL runner supports children’s mental health as she trains for the 120th Boston Marathon®

Somerville, MA – April 5, 2016 – For Jeanne Wolf, the fast approaching Boston Marathon is more than just 26.2 miles; it’s a journey of hope for children in Boston and beyond. Wolf is running her third marathon, and first Boston, to support at-risk and underserved children and families. Wolf is raising money for Wediko Children’s Services, a nonprofit committed to helping children succeed in school, at home, and in the community despite the obstacles and challenges, including trauma, loss, and learning issues, in their way.

In wanting to run for charity, Wediko was a natural fit, explains Wolf, saying, “As a family that has seen first-hand the importance of keeping children healthy – both physically and mentally – we feel strongly that we need to advocate for and educate families on resources that are available when you have a vulnerable child. Wediko does an amazing job of providing mental health services in a variety of settings.”

Wediko makes a significant and positive impact on the mental health and well-being of at-risk and underserved children in the local community. For over 80 years, Wediko has been collaborating with schools and families to ensure that all students have what they need to succeed.

Wolf, impressed by the breadth of Wediko’s reach and impact, is excited to use her running as a way to give back. “Initially I wanted to qualify [for Boston] but running for charity is an incredible experience. I’m looking forward to being a part of such a diverse group of elite runners and runners who, like me, do it because we love it. I have the added bonus of running for an incredible organization like Wediko.”

Wolf initially set what she thought was an aggressive fundraising goal of $10,000. She has been overwhelmed by support and recently increased her goal to $11,500, knowing there are countless children who would benefit from Wediko’s support. Donations to support Wolf’s marathon fundraising, can be made online or via check made payable to Wediko. All money raised supports children’s mental health services, including school-based, home-based, and residential programs.
