Danville, CA – April 6, 2016 – For Kathy Walsh, the fast approaching Boston Marathon is more than just 26.2 miles; it’s a journey of hope for children. The local mom, training for her ninth marathon and first Boston, is raising money to support children’s mental health. Walsh is a member of the charity team for Wediko Children’s Services, a nonprofit committed to helping children succeed in school, at home, and in the community despite social, emotional, and academic challenges.

“Boston has been a dream of mine since my first marathon 16 years ago. As a runner, this event is number one on my bucket list. I knew I had to run it in my lifetime and chose the 120th running for the history and meaning. I am honored to run as part of Wediko’s team.”

Wediko makes a significant and positive impact on the mental health and well-being of at-risk and underserved children. For over 80 years, Wediko has been collaborating with schools and families to ensure that all students have the social and emotional skills they need to succeed.

Donations to support Walsh’s marathon fundraising can be made online or via check made payable to Wediko. All money raised supports children’s mental health services, including school-based, home-based, and residential programs.

“I was drawn to Wediko because they help children learn and thrive to the best of their ability. They understand that one size does not fit all and meet the child where they are in a very compassionate and positive way. Without Wedikos programs, families would not have the opportunity to work through their challenges and improve their quality of life.”
