Newbury Street Goes Car-Free Today

Pedestrians won't have to worry about crossing the street if you head to Newbury today.

There is bound to be Newbury Street traffic on Sunday. The one guarantee is that, for part of the day, it'll only be of the pedestrian variety.

Boston confirmed last month it will close Newbury Street to cars on Sun., August 7, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. The decision is part of the "Open Newbury Project", an initiative to make a street laden with shops and eateries more attractive to people traveling on foot.

Newbury will be closed from Berkeley Street to Mass Ave.

Tell Patch what you think of the idea on our Back Bay and Boston Facebook pages, or directly at Newbury Street's Pinkberry or Wired Puppy, where you'll likely find us enjoying fro-yo and coffee during the "Open Newbury Project."

We'll also be out taking pictures on the street Sunday. If you get any great shots, please! Shoot them over to alison.bauter@patch.com, and we'll add them to our slideshow (including credit to you, of course).
