Reminder: Boston Public Library Closed Thursday, Friday Before Grand Reopening
The big day is almost here.
Boston, MA - A quick reminder that the Boston Public Library's main branch on Copley Square will be closed Thursday and Friday, July 7 and 8, ahead of its grand reopening.
It's the culmination of years of renovations with the opening of its new wing and a multitude of other updates. The city will mark the occasion with a ribbon-cutting and celebration Saturday at 10:30 a.m.
Highlights of the second phase of the renovation include: removal of the granite plinths that covered the Johnson building windows, a revamped lecture hall, a new innovation center, a hi-tech community learning center, an enlarged Fiction section, digital stacks to explore the BPL’s digitized collections, a Welcome Center, a cafe and a satellite WGBH radio studio.
