Skatepark Under Zakim Bridge May Open Next Year

If skaters and park advocates have their way, a park with concrete ramps, half-pipes, and other skate-friendly terrain could be easily accessible from the Back Bay as soon as next year, according to this story in the Boston Globe.

The park, called the Charles River Skatepark, would be the largest skatepark in New England when it's completed.  The Charles River Conservancy has raised $2.5 million to build the park, and the article states that other funding for the park would come from "the Department of Conservation and Recreation and money raised from special events."

Pedestrian bridges have also been proposed that would link the park to downtown, Charlestown, and Cambridge, and presumably non-skaters could use those as shortcuts, as well.
