As much as I hate to admit it, summer is beginning to wind down, but there’s still one more chance for you to hop on the ferry to Georges Island for some island relaxation and free entertainment from Berklee students.
Over the past month and a half, up-and-coming Berklee musicians have performed free concerts for Berklee Music Fest on Georges Island as part of the Berklee Summer in the City concert series, presented by Natixis Global Asset Management. The series on Georges Island features student groups ranging from bluegrass to funk to reggae dub, and never fail to impress with an on-point summer soundtrack.
Performing on Saturday, August 24th is Drunken Logic, Doctor Doctor, and Friendly People. Drunken Logic will start off the afternoon with an hour long set full of youthful energy and rock ‘n’ roll, drawing influences from Death Cab for Cutie, Frightened Rabbit, Foo Fighters, and The Who. Once you’re warmed up and ready to boogie and rock out, Doctor Doctor plays at 3:00pm, continuing with self-described profound rock. The final act of the day is folk-infused indie rock band Friendly People. Started as a jam band in a Cambridge living room, the band has grown to release an album as well as tour across the U.S., culminating with a performance at SXSW. I went to their EP release show at the Middle East last December, and I’ve got to tell you, their performance is definitely something you don’t want to miss – and what better way to spend a Saturday, am I right?
This weekend marks the final Berklee Music Fest show on Georges Island for the season, so make sure to plan accordingly, and jump on the Ferry. Bonus: you can still sleep in a bit as the music doesn’t start until 2pm.
