2 Pedestrians Killed In Cape Cod Crash

There was a serious crash in Sandwich Monday on Route 6A, police said.

SANDWICH, MA — Two elderly pedestrians were killed after they were struck by a minivan in Sandwich Monday, police said. The victims were identified as Shirley McCarthy, 87, and Evelyn Furlong, 69, both of Sandwich. A 54-year-old Foxborough man was at the wheel of the minivan, police said. No charges were immediately announced.

Police said the crash happened on Route 6A near Merchant Road at about 2 p.m. The minivan is a 2001 Honda Odyssey, police said. Police said the victims were found unresponsive and transported to Cape Cod Hospital, where they were pronounced dead.

"The investigation is currently ongoing," Sandwich police said in a statement. "Due to the nature of the investigation, as well as the potential of criminal charges, the name of the driver is not being released."
