3 Firefighters Injured In Ambulance Crash In Osterville

Six people, including three Mashpee firefighters, were hospitalized after an ambulance was involved in a 5-car crash in Osterville.

BARNSTABLE, MA — Six people, including three Mashpee firefighters, suffered injuries after a five-car crash involving an ambulance in Osterville, according to police. Police said the crash happened just after 10 a.m. Monday at the intersection of Route 28 and East Osterville Road.

According to police, the ambulance had its lights and siren on when a driver in another vehicle pulled out of East Osterville Road, took a left and struck the ambulance. The ambulance then struck three cars before coming to a stop.

Police said three people were taken to Cape Cod Hospital in Hyannis and three were taken to Falmouth Hospital. None of the injuries are considered life-threatening.

The ambulance involved in the crash was new, having just been put into service last month. Fire officials told the Cape Cod Times the ambulance, which cost more than $300,000, sustained serious front-end damage and is out of service.

The ambulance, along with, four vehicles and a landscaping trailer, were towed from the scene.
