3 Hospitalized After Crash Involving Police Cruiser In Hyannis

The cause of the accident is under investigation, police said Saturday.

HYANNIS, MA — An accident involving a Barnstable police cruiser and two other vehicles has resulted in three people being hospitalized, officials said Saturday.

The crash occurred Friday around 10:40 p.m. at the intersection of Route 28 and Bearses Way in Hyannis, according to a police statement.

Rescue crews responded and took three people to Cape Cod Hospital in Hyannis, while two others at the scene refused medical help. The hospital briefly went into a “trauma alert” mode as a result of the accident, the statement said.

Police did not disclose the names or conditions of those who were hospitalized, or whether the officer driving the cruiser was injured.

The intersection is surrounded by a strip mall and numerous businesses, and the area has a speed limit of 35 mph.

Crash reconstructors at the Cape Cod Regional Law Enforcement Council are investigating the accident.
