3rd DUI For Barnstable Man With 20 Nips In Car: Police

Police said Peter Bergfors, of Barnstable, was arrested for drunk driving after a Good Samaritan reported he was all over the road.

BARNSTABLE, MA — A Barnstable man was arrested Sunday and charged with his third drunk-driving offense after police said a Good Samaritan notified authorities and reported he was driving all over the road. Peter Bergfors, 56, was charged with felony drunk driving, negligent driving and a lane violation. Police said they found 20 nips of alcohol in his vehicle, some which were empty.

Police said on Sunday at about 5:15 p.m., a concerned citizen called to report Bergfors was driving erratically. A Yarmouth police officer tracked him down on Route 6A in Yarmouthport and arrested him.

"The (Yarmouth Police Department) thanks the caller for alerting us to this crime in progress and helping make Yarmouth safer," Yarmouth police said in a statement.

Bergfors was held in custody pending an arraignment Monday in Barnstable District Court.
