Arrest Made In Car Crime String: Barnstable Police

A Hyannis man is accused in multiple motor vehicle break-ins over the past several weeks.

HYANNIS, MA — Police have arrested a Hyannis man in connection with a string of nearly a dozen motor vehicle break-ins over the past several weeks.

Jakari Sylvia, 20, was apprehended early Wednesday near Seagate Lane after the report of a break-in there, according to a statement later in the day.

Barnstable police matched Sylvia to descriptions of previous burglaries and pursued him with the help of a K-9 unit and a surveillance drone.

After “scaling fences and running through backyards,” he was taken into custody, police said.

Sylvia is charged with four counts of breaking and entering a motor vehicle, five counts of attempted breaking and entering, and two counts of larceny. He was arraigned Wednesday and was being held pending bail.
