BARNSTABLE, MA — Police here helped save a family's pet dog after responding to a violent animal attack inside a Hyannis home Tuesday night.
Barnstable 0fficers Brandon Sanders and Rebecca Tatzel-Mandel went to a home on May 26 after a frantic 911 caller reported that a dog was viciously attacking another.
When the officers arrived, they found the scene in chaos and discovered a severely injured dog named Newnew in the kitchen, a statement said on Thursday.
The police immediately began trying to stop the dog's extensive bleeding. Sanders retrieved a medical bag from his cruiser while Tatzel-Mandel assessed the dog’s injuries.
The officers then coordinated with other police to arrange emergency transportation to Barnstable Animal Hospital for urgent treatment.
It's not clear what provoked the attack, or who the attacker was.
"The following day, officers Sanders and Tatzel-Mandel visited Newnew at the hospital and found her in stable condition, thanks to their efforts and the emergency medical care provided by the veterinary staff," the statement said.
