HYANNIS, MA — A Barnstable man was arrested Wednesday night after he led police on a chase and eventually walked inside their headquarters to complain about it.
The incident began around 9 p.m. near MA Route 28 and Walton Avenue in Hyannis, where a Barnstable police officer attempted to stop the man for recklessly operating a scooter, the Hyannis News reported.
Police said the rider refused to stop and instead continued toward Bearses Way, at one point extending a middle finger toward officers while he drove away.
The moped reached speeds over 30 mph and crossed marked lanes while heading toward Route 132, police said.
The officers then ended their pursuit because of safety concerns.
Barnstable Police Lt. Jason Laber identified the rider as Sharles Albino, 35, of Centerville. Albino now faces charges of reckless operation, marked-lanes violations, speeding, failure to stop for police and operating with a suspended license.
Police said the Vespa was towed from the scene.
