Big Brothers Big Sisters of Cape Cod & the Islands Honors E.J. and Terry Jaxtimer

OSTERVILLE, Mass. – Big Brothers Big Sisters of Cape Cod & the Islands honored E.J. and Terry Jaxtimer, founders of the Big 3 Fishing Tournament at a Gala Celebration held at Wychmere Beach Club, capping off the nonprofit organization's annual two-day fundraising event.

The Gala Celebration, new this year, followed the Big 3 Fishing Tournament's saltwater fishing competition and captain's reception held the previous evening. The event, which raised more than $1 million, brought together community members, tournament participants and supporters of youth mentoring across the Cape region.

Mark O'Donnell, president and CEO of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Eastern Massachusetts, and JR Mell, regional director of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Cape Cod & the Islands, attended alongside the Jaxtimers, longtime supporters and active co-chairs of the Cape Cod & Islands Advisory Committee. The husband and wife duo received the inaugural Jaxtimer Family Leadership Award, recognizing extraordinary individuals whose dedication, philanthropy, advocacy and community leadership creates a lasting impact on the children and families throughout Cape Cod and the Islands.

"Terry and I are firm believers in giving back to the community, and by doing so through Big Brothers Big Sisters of Cape Cod & the Islands, hopefully our youth will have a brighter future with the guidance of their Bigs," says E.J. Jaxtimer. "We feel honored to receive this award from BBBS of Cape Cod & the Islands, but it truly takes a village to make a difference. Together, we can continue to provide opportunities, guidance, and positive role models for the next generation."

The Jaxtimer family's ties to the Cape run deep. E.J. and Terry founded E.J. Jaxtimer Builder, Inc. in 1978 and have built it into one of the largest custom building and design firms on Cape Cod and the Islands, work they now share with their three sons, who each hold roles in the family business. That same local footprint extends into the Big 3 Fishing Tournament, which the Jaxtimers have used for years to rally the Cape's business and boating community behind youth mentoring.

"E.J. and Terry aren't just supporters; they are leaders who have built one of the largest fundraising events on the Cape that brings the fishing and construction communities together around mentoring," says Mell. "The combination of philanthropy, comradery and family has transformed our agency, enabling us to serve youth in every town from Provincetown to Nantucket."

Big Brothers Big Sisters of Cape Cod & the Islands is the only one-to-one mentoring organization serving every town on Cape Cod, Martha's Vineyard, Nantucket and Plymouth.
