BARNSTABLE, MA —The Barnstable Fire Department is getting a $16,600 boost to help protect residents and strengthen fire safety education throughout the community.
In a Facebook post, the department announced it had received $16,600 in grant funding from the Massachusetts Department of Fire Services for fiscal 2027.
The funding will support two important fire safety initiatives: the Student Awareness of Fire Education (SAFE) program and the Senior SAFE program.
With the help of the grants, the Barnstable Fire Department will continue partnering with the West Barnstable Fire Department to provide fire prevention and life safety education to students and older adults.
The SAFE program focuses on teaching children essential fire prevention skills, while the Senior SAFE program provides safety education for older adults. Both initiatives aim to prevent emergencies and help residents stay safe.
In its Facebook post, the department expressed gratitude to those who helped secure the funding, including Gov. Maura Healey, Lt. Gov. Kim Driscoll, the Massachusetts Department of Fire Services, state Sen. Julian Cyr and state Rep. Kip Diggs.
